Volunteer

“I have always held firmly to the thought that each one of us can do a little to bring some portion of misery to an end”
Albert Schweitzer

HART provides an opportunity for volunteers seeking a meaningful experience where even the smallest of efforts makes all the difference to the center and it's animals.

Volunteers are a vital part of the center and the
following is a brief description of areas in which
we are always looking for help.

Animal Care

Volunteers assist our caregivers with cleaning outdoor enclosures, night houses, small holding cages, processing animal laundry, helping with food preparation, organizing supply rooms, collecting animals, helping with release of animals (where possible).

Fundraising / Special Events

Fundraising and special events are an important
part of the future success of the center. We need
to continuously raise money in order to keep the
level of care we currently have and to be able to
expand on that care.

Grounds Maintenance

Assist our ground helpers with weeding, planting and cutting grass. Nurturing the vegetable garden, welding, mending fences, painting, building new enclosures, maintenance of enclosures.

Cattle Care

HART is situated on a cattle farm and volunteers
will assist and learn the workings of a cattle farm.
Depending on what season of the year, this will
include providing supplements, standby during
calving season, parasite control, examination
and counting, checking and cleaning water troughs,
mending fences and herding cattle into kraal when
necessary.
